How do you guys measure the girth of your flatheads? Do you do it while it is on the ground or holding it vertical or horizontal in the air? Or does it matter?

    good question

i dont think it would matter one way or another, dont see the fish stretchin or shrinkin much, plus its the same distance around a 20 inch oval as it is a 20 inch circle

If I'm going to take a pic or measure a fish I want to do this as quickly as possible with the least amount of stress and harm to the fish. I do not put them on the ground. I release them asap.

I usually just measure them from center of eye ball to center of eye ball. As Mickey said, its less stress on the fish. And, I carefully put them back in the water. Man, they have it made.
