Use the search function there are plenty of topics about this, but using dip/punch bait isnt that bad, get a dip bait worm or a fiber dip rig like looper rigs, take a stick and bury it in the bait and pull it out, thats it. Just dry off the rigs/worms when you reel them back in, otherwise the bait wont stick well when you rebait. Personally i use them with a slip sinker setup, its simple and effective...

Punch bait is a very thick version of a dip bait, but it has fibers such as cat tails mixed in it to help it stay on the hook. You don't need a dip worm or any other rig to keep it on the hook. Just use a plain treble hook from size 8 to size 2 (depending on the size of fish you are after). I will fish it on bottom at any depth or over baited holes with a carolina rig or on a slip cork rig fishng shallow water. A good punch bait can be very effective for eating size cats.
