this may seem like a stupid question to some of you guys but what is a punchbait? Is it somehow different from a stink or doughbait?

A punch bait is different . It's thicker and has a fiber that holds it together. Nothing is needed but the treble hook. Push the hook down into the punch bait with a stick. Pull it out and cast it. You can order some from Danny Kings Punch Bait. He is a BOC sponsor.

There are generally stringy fibers in the punchbait to help hold the bait together on your hook. If you're making your own, cattail fuzz works very well.
