I used 1/2" black pipe with a 3/16 joiner for threaded rod pounded into the top. Had a local shop tack weld the joints for me cuz they kept popping loose when I pounded it in. I'm trying it out Wed night and if it works I'll start making up a few more with the 12" length instead of the 18". The ply is to spread the pull load with a fish on and barley moves 1/4" with a hard push.

I did tweak the holder a little bit. Had to spread the front out a little to let the Meat Hunter fit all the way and bent back ( had a 15 - 20% bend ) flat and that put my rod at a upward angle enough that the rod can't accidentally be popped out. The holder started life as a horizontal but I fixed it.

The title shoulda been " Prototype " , guess my proofreading sucks.

Thanks. I know I had to use a 4' long steel pipe to pry it out the ground after I took pics so I doubt a big cat could run off with it.

them are some nice ones but my uncle 223reload he used 36" piece of 5/8 or 3/4" round rod and 2" long piece of 2" pipe, with a plate cap welded on the bottem end to hold the rod but and a v shaped piece of 1" flat about 7" long welded to the main rod just below or above were your reel is on your fishin rod and a 3" by 1/8" flat welded a few inches below the rod but holder at 90 degree to the rodto keep it from twisting when drove in the ground. i know these work good because my popa caught fish up to 70lbs and held them in the rod holder while bring in another fish.

Welcome aboard Lenny. Who is this 223reload guy your talking about? Is he some kind of big shot or something, is he in rod holder production or sales? Ive never heard of him before and I know all the big rod holder makers.:glasses-cool:

There were some flaws. The tack welds didn't hold & the threaded piece popped out. I did hang into some huge gar that couldn't pull it out tho. Just gotta rethink the design a little bit and find a better welder. Other than those 2 issues I havs no complaints.

Ramon, that rod is most excellent and I gotta thank ya for the link to RF.
