Tomorrow morning my daughter is having surgery to remove a malignant tumor from her large intestine.
Prayers for her would really be appreciated. Her name is Tara Bush.

    Thank you...W

May the Lord guide the hands of the doctor and that she has a full and fast recovery.

    Everyone,
I have realized that with all that is going on I have been remiss in keeping this thread updated.

When they operated some lymph nodes were taken along with the intestine. Of the 12 nodes taken, 11 came back clear but 1 did not. A trip to the oncologist had already been sceduled so that was our next move.

The visit to the oncologist was very positive. She clarified the pathology results for us and explained that the amount of cancer present in that 1 lymph node was extremely small but to be sure there isn't any more we have to dig a little deeper. She also explained that as well as the tests we have several treatment options should they be necessary so we left there feeling somewhat relieved and optimistic.

It turns out there is a procedure called an Octreotide Scan that is used for our kind of cancer. Radioactive Octreotide (a drug that attaches to our kind of cancer cells) is injected and left to seek out and bind to any cancer cells present. Tara will then get 2-3 scans over 2-3 days that will take about 4-5 hours in total. The images produced from these scans will show up any remaining cells.....or hopefully, a lack of them.

We had been told that the usual scans we hear about...CT and PET are not effective at showing our particular kind of cancer cells so hearing about this other one was good news. The results of this scan and some more blood and other tests will determine our next move. There is also a drug to treat this condition but unless we need to go there I won't talk about it
The scan is scheduled for next week.

Tara is being very positive and she is feeling good. She is healing well from the surgery and is already calling her work, asking them to send her something to do.

Please continue to send Tara your thoughts, prayers and healing

    Thanks...W
