I have been out with some of my buddies on the Potomac. There are some big cats in there, our biggest was 43 lbs. Normally we will catch between the 20-30 lbs range. Make sure you use some kind of cut bait though. I haven't had very much luck using any other bait for the bigger cats. Shad is the best bait I have used, but we have caught them using a variety of cut bait so if you have something else throw it on the hook and give it a shot.

We usually fish in the middle of the deep channel of the potomac..... around 30-50 ft deep depending on where you are. Off of Fort Washington near the lighthouse is a good place with some big cats.

    Good luck.
