Fished the main river channel today and caught a mixed bag of immature blue cats and channels. Plenty of fish just no size to them. Hard time finding shad today, had to resort to blue gill of the boat docks. However I did catch a nice flathead catfish in the cast net, about an 8 pounder. First flathead I've seen come out of the river.

I netted the flathead just inside of the mouth of the Occoquan river by the first marina on the left side. no pictures.

The location of where you netted the fish makes sense. There are lots of flatheads in the Occoquan Reservior and the river above it. They just come over the dam right above the town. I really would think there would be more flatheads in the Potomac given the Occoquan is a major feeder river.
