Try downsizing your hook to see if its tiny ones stealing your bait.. can also try switching to using a bobber to detect the bites a bit quicker....

Try the Berkley packages of preformed catfish bait. Sticks on single or treble hooks pretty darn good.

    Welcome from Tennessee.

A smaller wire hook using redworms may get some of those bait stealers.

If the lake has an abundance of smaller bluegill, they will peck you to death also.

Use the small bluegill for bait...Cut the tail off a bluegill and useing a 5/0 hook fishing tightline ...the small bluegill will leave your bait along and if there a big catfish in the lake he may come a running for a free meal.
