I was considering doing a AR-15 build and was going to try one of the new polymer lowers. Just wanted to know if anyone here has tried one and how it worked out.
I have plenty of AR pattern rifles and no polymer lowers. Actually I have one, an M&P 15-22.
The first couple polymer lowers that came out had some issues with cracking around where the buffer tube goes. Some of the later ones have done better but I personally don't see the benefit. The cost savings are minimal compared to the price of the rifle. There are weight savings to be had but at what cost? The new frontier armory lower comes with fire control group but that will get upgraded by the end user eventually.
I personally don't see any upside over the long term for going polymer on an AR pattern firearm.
The one I was thinking about is the New Frontier and your right there's not a huge saving over the alloy ones but for 45 bucks I though it might be fun to experiment.
