    The BOC is planning to upgrade servers in November to a Duel CPU platform. The server deployment is projected to take place on or about November 26th 2007.

    In your opinion, which one would be best for the BOC?

    Raid1 or Raid5

    If you have any horror stories, feel free to share.

    Will be using a hardware raid controller on SCSI drives.

    Paul,
    Although I'm not a computer nerd or geek I thoroughly recommend HUH?
    HUH? has always been my go to option for every computer issue I have ever had.
    I think you will find that most members will agree with me that they immediately think HUH? at the fist sign of any computer issue.
    Glad to be of help...W:wink:

    Paul;

    You will need info from some more Nerdy than me. All I can say is the Raid controller technology is Great as far as it being super fast to access Data. I have not upgraded to a Raid capable Motherboard but when I do I will have it running my Harddrives.

    Are you saying that we will have to get new motherboards to get on here when they move the BOC to the "Raid" system????

    Want to get this system Up? My suggestion is utilize DJ's p-ram tweak and widgets with "Train Wrecks" hydrated morphis (soluble only) and make sure Winston really means "Huh" instead of "Duh". Then add one full case of Viagra to the server feed and have the Butchwax Kid" check it with his voltmeter. Stand back and watch this puppy take off!

    Yes, the flux capacitor would work fine if you route it though the deflector dish and back through the dilythium crystals, LOL!!! the FC doesn't have enough power on it's own to withstand the power generated by the warp core!!!!

    We can't help ourselves Paul, LOL!!!

    Besides, do you realize how hard it would be to route all of this through the HI area and accomplish the task at hand....Virtually impposible,. We can do anything, the impposible just takes longer, LMAO!!!

    JW;

    I will try and explain RAID to you the best of my knowledge. as a user of the site , you do dot have to have a Raid controller in your computer to access the site. Raid technology is where the Server or cumputer you are accessing with Raid makes the Data available FASTER for you to access, so to speak. How RAID works in a simple sense is the computer or server can access 2,3 or more Harddrives that has Data on them all at the same time. Rather that just accessing the Data off of one Harddrive at a time. I hope that kinda explains it, and again I may not be perfect in trying to explain this as it takes someone with more knowledge than me to be precise in the explanation. What Paul wants to do, would be a real boost to the BOC with so many people accessing Data at the rate it needs to be accessed.

    Hope this kinda helps.

    If it makes the BOC experience faster I am all for it.

    Are we gonna get stop signs and redlights to prevent accidents or, just put up speed limit signs, LOL!!!

    Gene, you are correct.

    The benefit of raid also is in mirroring the data. When the server writes data, it does so to 2 different disks or drives. This allowing 1 to fail, and the information not be lost. Both Raid1 and Raid5 are good choices for the BOC. I personally don't see how either would be a bad choice. The question to ask is, how many drives would we be utilizing for this?
