hello all, has been a while since i have posted. and look at all that has changed on our website....wow!

well, i just wanted everyone to know that if you are buying any parts for your outboard there is an online company that you should stay away from. the name of the company is clearwater boat service. they are based out of kentucky. thier website is myoutboardparts .com.
these guys are thieves! they dont respond to emails, and thier phone number just rings and rings before an answering machine picks up and says that the mailbox is full (probably with messages from all the people they rip off)
after buying a simple carb rebuild kit from them at thier paypal verified website, and being charged ten dollars to ship something that wieghs 10 ounces from kentucky to missouri, i waited 16 days. 16 days and no parts. 10 phone calls with no answer, and 3 emails without a response.
finally i had to get paypal involved. i filed a dispute with paypal and was informed that it will now take an extra ten days tops before i get refunded the money or paypal gets a shipping conformation with tracking number to make sure i get my parts. god bless the buyer's protection that paypal has. otherwise there would have been no recourse.
with some hardcore detective work i also found other compliants about the company talking about how people ordered a new part and got shipped a clearly used part. what a buch of thieves!
so do yourself a favor, if you need any parts for your outboard stay away from these guys. spend a little extra money if need be. you wil have a greater chance of not getting ripped off. but if you have bought parts from them and have not recieved or not recieved the parts as described, use paypal to get you transation reversed. thats why they have it. and please dont just lay down and take it. no matter how little you spent with them, the only way it will stop happening is if you put forth the effort and use the tools provided to you to protect your purchase.
if you have purchased something from another website and not recieved your purchase, and they dont respond to you. then there is one other mode of recourse you have. call your bank. most banks have a dispute form which you can file with the bank. the bank will then lightly pursue the matter, and more than likely reverse the charges. now this is the important part. YOU MUST GO TO YOUR BANK TO DO THIS. YOU HAVE TO FILE THESE FORMS IN PERSON. AFTER YOU FILE THESE FORMS, YOU SHOULD GET A NEW DEBIT/CREDIT CARD ISSUED WITH A NEW NUMBER. ITS A BIT OF A HASSLE BUT IT KEEPS THE COMPANY THAT RIPPED YOU OFF FROM SIMPLY RE-CHARGING YOUR ACCOUNT.
with any amount of luck these guys will be out of buisness in the very near future.

thanks for reading this, and please buy safely, and remember, most purchases you make online go through a place which verifies the company you are purchasing from. most all these places have some type of buyer protection. and finally only buy from secure websites.

If your buying outboard parts off of e-bay or through a newpaper ad, you are probably buying parts canabilized from stolen motors. Carbs don't cary serial numbers, lower units don't contain serial numbers, coils don't contain serial numbers. Not all sellers are thieves, but I wouldn't trust the majority of them.

Better then that. Jamestown Distributors.
They carry just about anything boat related from building boats, restoring boats, repairing boats, some engine parts, and all kinds of steering componets.
Everything for the jon boat to the yacht.
For 39.95 a year you are a member of the VIP club.
Unlimited product technical support. A master catalogue of 1200+ pages, and the best thing, unlimited free ground shipping for a year. That pays for itself.
Although I don't deal with them on everything I deal with them alot.

Every person you get on the phone is knowledgeable of their products which says alot.
Alot of times when you order something like paint you get the product and find out you need some special thinner or a brushing thinner. They make it easy. Call and tell them what you are doing and they'll tell you everything you need. You get it right the first time.

Their website is loaded with how to videos. It's called JD TV.
From my experience the service is untouchable. I order on Wednesday I got it on Friday. ALWAYS.
That is from Rhode Island to North Carolina.
I regularly watch videos. I was just watching on how to install stainless rubrail. How to bend it around sharp corners. Fantastic amount of info they supply.

I'm not always shopping the best price. I'm shopping for service. Some of their prices are a little high while others are low or in line.
They have some of the best marine paint pricing out there on Brightsides.
I routinely get sale catalogues from them which helps alot.
I get email notifications of new products.

I tell folks about them all the time because of the huge selection of items they carry.
If i were building an 80 foot boat from start to finish, I could get everything but the engines and genset from them literally.
For 200 bucks a year They'll manage my projects and do my research for me.
I have a person assigned to me to look after my needs.

That is probally a little overboard for most people here on this site going that far but it's available to those into building, restoring, and marine fab.
One stop shop.

I probably buy 90% of my parts from O'Reilley's. They carry Sierra aftermarket parts and on most common parts they can have them to me same day or the next morning out of the KC warehouse.

You have to do a bit more research to cross the OEM P/N to the Sierra P/N (easy enough at the Sierra online catalog) but it's worth it because it makes the counter guy's job a lot easier when you call with a part number.

Drawbacks are that those guys aren't outboard folks and make no claim to be so you need to make sure you're ordering the right part. Also I'm pretty lucky in that the store here has pretty good guys working at it.

Their prices are reasonable, especially when you take into account that you're not paying shipping.
