I took some pictures of 2 slightly deformed fish. Notice the 1 pic big headed fish, he had a real pig head. The other pic looks like tail area slightly deformed, he was decent size but didn't fight at all. Both fish were very healthy and were released unharmed.

I'd send them pics to the DNR...they need to get a water sample where you are catching those units.

First one I would bet as we have caught a lot of them. Was hurt when small like being broke.
The next one of just a male channel. That was out chasing the gals and not eating.
Every spring here there thousands of them caught. And in the fall you will still catch some of them. As some places they spawn spring and then some will finish up in the fall.

id say that first one has had a broken spine and learned to live with it and the second appears to be a mix bread between a blue and a channel that happens both looked like good eater fish tho

ive cought fish with messed up spines like that before, not sure if its just a common deformity or a broken spine or what but it looks wierd. and the second one looks like some kind of hybrid between flathead blue AND channel to me. lol

Fish caught in Ohio, the one with the spine problem caught at Alum Creek Reservoir last week. Pig head was caught at Delaware Reservoir about 2 months ago. Fished both of these reservoirs for over 30 years never caught any fish that looked this way before.

I don't know about you but I don't think I would eat any of them you catch around that area.

Another possible reason for the big headed fish is the lake has become over populated, and they are not getting enough to eat.

There is a pond locally that all the channel cats that come out of it look like that, it is simply caused by not enough food, and their heads keep growing, but bodies can't keep up.

Higher than "normal" amount of "ammonia" in the water will cause a similar deformity..... ........
