How do you keep the ants, slugs and furry critters from sampling your strawberries?? I have some ortho max I was thinking of using but wasnt sure if itd work on the slugs or not. I know some furry critter (squirrel or chipmunk) has been sampling my berries but they only take a little piece out. I was thinking about some tainted peanuts for them since I dont have a pellet gun.

If you are getting berries now I wouldn't use the max. what you put on the baerries won't wash off! Snuff is good, it will wash off.

For the ants I spray liquid Sevin and its cheap. Being that its a berry I wouldnt direct spray.
I would spray around the plants.
Slugs. Beer always works. Small dishes of beer set out helps.
For the squirrels, a frying pan with bacon grease works wonders.

Iron phosphate is the only true bait/poison for slugs. Once they eat it, they stop eating! No worries about the hazards-it is a common ingredient in many fertilizers.
