anyone use perch for bait in the ohio river? does it work as a cut bait?
In south carolina its one of the top baits cut or live.
i never tried it. anyone here in ky on the ohio tried????
I dunno about out there but here in VA perch was a good bait in the summer time we caught lots of fish on them we used them cut also. we would cut off the tail and throw them out hole or use chunks. Another good way was to slice a filete up to the gills and fold it over and stick the hook through the fillete and then threw the eyes works well and plenty of scent gets into the water.
Like mentioned above it works great here in SC. Big fish eat little fish. If its native to the waters your fishing then the cats there will eat them. I dont know of any place that doesnt have some sort of perch in there waters so give it a shot and you will be surprised. Preferably Alive for flatheads and use as cut bait for blues.
Yellow perch work well for channel cat up north. I primarily use the head.
I tried some cut bream in an area where I usually catch mostly blues; it did pretty well on channels, but no blues.
The Blues around here love Bluegill, Yellow perch, & White perch heads. I would keep up with the bream head and your bound to nail some Blues.
cut yellow perch in pa work good in warm weather
I'm with the rest of the SC guys; white perch can be a killer bait, especially the heads.
I haven't fished the Ohio, But on barkley lake any type of small perch, bluegil, sunfish, bass etc...etc...etc.. works very good for big blues. I like to use the heads.
