i saw a reel on clearance at the local k-mart this evening for 48 dollars. it was a Penn Peerless R9M. i know nothing about this reel. would it make a good flathead reel? does it cast well? is that a good price? has anyone used this reel before? any info you folks could give me would be appreciated.

My brothers had one for years,it,s a workhorse,he abuses the hell out of his gear and it,s still working fine.He uses about 6 ozs to get any kind of distance out of it though.

I'm guessing that it's black plastic.
Check ebay as told in another reply.
I got the older maroon bakelite side plated ones off ebay for about $10 to $20each, plus shipping.
I can't cast them as far as I wish, without a backlash. Mostly let them drop to the bottom from the boat.
