I own some of both. Never had a problem with either. My favorite is the 7000c3. I like it for performance and line capacity, and its easy to work on.

I'm an Abu man...and stick with what works for me,smooth, dependable reels. One of my fishing buds is a Penn man...he has several that were handed down from his father that he still uses today. His Penns have caught numerous big fish over the past 40 or so yrs....tough.

It's a matter of choice...try one of each as you start your collection and go with what works for you.

Parts are easy to get for both so which ever one you decide on will be a good choice.

I own both, well my Penn 320 hold more lines than my Abu 6500. but sometimes I like to use Abu for better casting than Penn. Depend where I fishing at.. I love both.

You can't go wrong with either one. That being said, I prefer the Abus.

both have been proven repeatedly it all boils down to preferance , i am the most confident with my penns for tough going and it all boils down to confidence when to lock up with a brute . I'll sacrifice the extra distance i gain with my abu's (which is not much ) for the pure muscle of my penns .

I have tried both the abu 6000&6500, also ive used the penn 209,

    Here is what I've gathered

    GOOD
    ABU
    Greater casting distance
    Easyer to cast for beginners

    PENN
    More like a "winch"
    Greater line cap.

    BAD
    ABU
    Less cranking power
    Lower line cap.

    PENN
    Less cranking speed
Harder to cast for beginners (trust me, I started on the 209m)

    Hope this helps you

Due to a life time of fishing both fresh, tidewater and saltwater,I bought Penns.Never had a regret.I can say the same for Zebco 888's and 808's.I love you Brothers and Sisters.peewee

I have used both ABU and Penn. I thinks it is more what you get used to first. They both make great reels. I prefer ABU's just because to me, they cast easier.
