penn 209 yay or nay?

    whats the opinon on the penn 209 for a catfish rig? thanx Adam

    All I use are Penn reels, I use the 309 but the 209 is the same reel just a little smaller. they are like truck winches, hold a crap ton of line, and if maintained once or twice a year you could give them to your grandkids..... :0a26:

    p.s. Use Quantum hotsauce to grease and lube... it will make these workhorse reels as smooth as a shimano

    If it looks like it's in good condition I would do it..... parts for them things are a dime a dozen even if, say the clicker or somthing needs replaced:wink:

    Look for the older Penn 209's on EBAY, they were made in the USA! Can't beat them! I just won(lol) a Penn 209 that was made in 1965! Smooth as they come! Good luck!:cool2:

    I took a "USA" 309 apart and one of the ones made in "CHINA" ......SAME REEL:eek:oooh:

    Everything on it works like new! Won it at 42.00 came with the original box, catalog even the grease tube was with it! As for as the difference in between the made in USA and made in china, well I like that mine say made in the USA!

    If you want the older model look for the torpedo handle, if you want the newer models look for the flat black handle. Not a guarantee but will put you on a track. They are great reels! I have a couple shimano tekota 600's collecting dust, all because of those Penn's!LOL!:smile2:

    ive never tried one of the penns , i ve always been an abassaduer kinda guy i like th 6000's and the 6500 c3's
