Hello, My name is Dick and I am new to this forum or any other. I would like to know the difference between the Penn 109 and the No. 9. I use both in my catfishing. Anyone know the history of these reels or where I can find out?

I would start with the Penn website. I have a few 9M reels.

Dick, welcome to the Board, we are happy to have you join us! You will find tons of information here and lot's of good people willing to share there knowledge! As for penn reels, they all are awesome and it is certainly a company that has passed the test of time!
A google search should turn up plenty of history.

I thank each of you for the warm welcome.
I have yet to find a definitive answer to the Penn 109 / No. 9 history.

I did find that the No. 9 was first produced in 1958.

    Thank you & God bless,
    Dick
