Took the canoe out again tonight and missed 2 (flatheads?) right at dark. Manage to catch this flathead just after dark. It beats my best flathead by 19 pounds. The bass pro spring scale showed it weighed 24.5 pounds. Caught it on live bait in the shallow water. Water temp was 74 degrees. My canoe is 44 inches wide so I think this fish is 39-40 inches long. This was the best I could do with the pictures since I was by my self.

Great looking fish, I bet catching that was like adding an outboard to a canoe. Sounds like fun, Congrats

Congrats on the PB!! Thats quite a jump up. May I suggest a camera with a timer? They are perfect for fishin alone as I usually do. You never know when that big one will hit.

    Way to go Shrewboy !!!!!

That is an awesome catch brother!! I wish I would have made a jump like that on my PB flathead.

Did it drag your canoe around trying to get it in?

"Did it drag your canoe around trying to get it in?"

WylieCat, It didn't drag the canoe as much as you would of think. To my suprise, it only took me to alittle bit deeper water. I have 20oz drink bottles attached to my anchor line just in case I have to dump my anchor line with a big fish on. This way the big fish don't get tangled in the anchor ropes. I didn't dump the anchors right a way because I was trying to reel in my other rods. Once the fish turned towards me, I decided to release the anchors lines and hope my other fishing lines wouldn't get tangled to bad. Good thing I told my wife I would be home soon. I ended up with a mess of twisted up fishing lines. It was worth it though.

Who knows, if I have dumped my achor lines right away, I may have ended up in the middle of the lake. That's what happened with my PB 26 pd blue cat I caught on lite tackle. That took me about 20 minutes to get it to the surface and into the canoe. Now that was fun.
