I have a 1985 90hp Evinrude. It's always run good until now. It will run smooth at idle speed but when you open it up it just bogs down and dies. I took it to the shop and the guy said it was the power pack. He ordered a new one and put it on and it ran alot smoother at idle speed but when you open it up all the the way it does the same thing. Will run good for about 500 yards and then it just shuts down. Any idea on what it could be? he seems to think it's an ignition problem after I took it back to him but I don't know if he's trying to swindle me or not. I've already paid parts and labor for the power pack and it's still now working. I've checked the gas feeds and everything and they are in good working shape. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Clean your carbs out ,change the filters...My 50hp did the same thing..Idle but no go..Water separater (spelling) broke down clogged carbs They wanted $100 a carb to rebuild...Be sure to flush the fuel lines before you try to run it again or you'll be starting over...There's not much to it if you are mechanically inclined ..also do a google search on the problem there are some good sites out there ....Any quality carb cleaner will work but you have to take them apart and clean everything....Most have o-ring gaskets so if you are not to rough you can reuse them....when you get all done run a fuel system cleaner thru the system ... Or you could take it to another dealer/repair shop Never get just 1 opinion ...Also you could disconnect the fuel line after the fuel pump see what kind of flow you are getting...Does it pick up if you pump the bulb? or run the same...If its the same its a fuel problem..No expert just MHO..good luck check back with you later..

thanks you were right it was a fuel problem. The mechanic is refunding me the parts and labor for the power pack and he is rebuilding the carb and replacing the fuel lines. Thanks for the information I appreciate it.
