This doesn't really answer the question you asked but there should be some numbers on your prop as well. Those will help you in replacing the prop with the same size and pitch which is very important.

I got ya now. I can't find a "se40rslg", but a "40rslg" comes up as a 1992. Maybe someone else can clarify that for you.

I went through 4 different data bases and there was no evenrudes built with the letter L determining the date I did find 2 conflicting things in all 4 and its either made in south america or south africa.

The SL will dertmine what year it was made . Sorry for assuming it was a typo.

I know it's a crude method but this is the link where I found it:

    http://www.marineengine.com/parts/parts.php

Put in 1992 as the year and 40 HP and click on the Model drop down box and 40rslg is in there. I went through every year from 1978-2007 and 1992 was the only year that had a 40rslg in the model drop down box.

thanks for the help guys much appreciated.

i will check it is an "l" not an "i" next time i go to the boat but 1992 sounds about right by the styling of the motor.

this place has a download with all evenrude model numbers in a database.

    www.aqua-marine.com

mine appears to be a 1992 commercial motor.

even though it is an "r" it also has remote electric start.

Then that would explain the L in the ID of the engine. I haven't seen this appelication for some time and it has to have been made for a large Sail boat. Something to think about.

Thanks for the help guys and it just proves it doesn't matter how old you get you can always learn something. I can rest now Cuz I have had my thought for the day.:smile2:
BTW thanks for the links guys.
