I bought an old 1986 Lowe LunkerV16 that previously had a 70 hp Merc on it. Does Johnson and Evinrude have the same bolt pattern to bolt the motor onto the transom? I need to buy a motor for it and I don't want to drill any other holes through the aluminum transon.

    Thanks in advance!

entirely different bolt patterns. Get you some 3 m 4200 and put you some bolts back through the transom covered with the 3m or buy the same motor is the only choice you have.

Thank you for the fast reply. I'm going to try and find another merc. I don't like the idea of drilling more holes through the transom.

    Thanks again, its much appreciated!

If you find a motor you like. Don't let this bother you. Find a cheap Jack plate. And mount this to your boat. Then mount the motor to the jack plate. Problem solved.
You can find them on E-Bay at times at a great price. The 2 piece ones will work for what you need.
