Mariner is a Mercury or is it really?
It depends. I've owned one Mariner. While I was using it , it never failed me.
If you stared at the key hard enough it would crank. Never a minute's trouble even after I sunk the boat and motor.
Once I got the bass boat back on top of the water where it is supposed to be and tended to the fuel and oil. I was flying down the lake again in 45 minutes tops. Never even pulled the plugs.
I did change the water pump impeller every year and put new plugs in it every year.

Only when I let it sit for 7 or 8 years did I have trouble.
Bobpaul Got the pleasure of working on it for me and informed me that Mercury did not in fact make that model Mariner. Yamaha did.
    1987 Mariner 60 horse is a Yamaha.
