I got in the stand this morning at 6:15. At 7:20 5 does came in, it took me about 10 minutes to get a clean shot. I hit her in the heart quartering slightly away and broke her right leg on the way through.
She went 45 yards and dropped. The weird thing was the other four does (three fawns and a huge matriarch doe) wouldnt leave her side.
It started to rain hard so I shewed them off and claimed my prize. She weighed 129 at the butcher shop. This was by far the fattest doe I have ever shot.

Cell phone pic, I'll post another later when I wake up

Nice hunt bro. Always good to start off the season off with a good bow kill doe. Enjoy the meat.

Great hunt , thanks for sharing.Nothing better than filling that freezer with a big mature fat doe.About 25 years ago I was at my local archery shop and struck up a conversation with an older archer there. After a short hunting story or two the guy was leaving and told me I hope you get a big doe.At that time I thought to myself how about wishing me luck for a big buck. Now a few years and a few big bucks later I see what he meant.Nothing is better than going out with a stick and a string and filling your freezer with a big mature doe. That is bowhunting at its core IMO.

Congrats on a nice doe Josh. Bow hunting is so much funner way to hunt deer than with a rifle. Got my tags this morning. Will be hunting this weekend. Thanks for sharing the story and picture.

With the 1 leg situation, its very hard to stand and shoot a compound quietly (and safely) in a treestand. I use a Horton 175 pound crossbow with carbon bolts and Muzzy 100 grain.

Thanks everyone for the pat on the back!

Josh congrats on your opening day success. I know that other parts
of the country have larger deer than we do in the south, but if that
doe weighted 129 field dressed that would be a monster doe here.

She was a fatty girl, I had her weighed at the butcher shop. I hunt 66 acres of woods sandwiched between a 100 acre apple orchard, a 25 acre bean field, and 200 acre corn field. They have plenty to eat!
I shot a yearling (button buck) last January that weighed 107 dressed.

Well opening day was Saturday. Did not get to hunt in the morning due to umpiring Softball. Got out in the afternoon thunderstorm (Stong believer that you can kill deer on the couch). Saw 1 doe about 60 yards away. My Day was made though when saw a bobcat sneaking through about 50 yds.
