Several years ago I would have picked the month of may for prespawn fish.

Now I would have to choose August and post spawn fish, have had no luck on prespawn flats for years.

if i was going to pick a month for the best flathead fishing it would be may 2nd mounth would be sept i havent fished flatheads in along time but used to be all i fished for before i realized that fishing tournaments most of the time in the missouri river and in different places that if wasnt fishing blues wasnt winning so had to adapt iihave caught biggest flatheads in may along with my dads biggest in may blues are more predictable

September! the spawn is long over, its still good and warm and the weather is usually dry, stable, and very predictable.

Thats a tough question jack, early spring, esp. highwater conditions have produced some great fish for me. however, i have caught some monster stringers in the fall time as well.. can i break it down to fifteen days from mid april-early may? then burn 15 more in late october or november, depending on the weather? pretty much have it covered then:smile2::wink: rollo

I think most of my numbers come pre-spawn, but the hawgs usually come late summer and fall for some reason?:eek:oooh:

i would pick OCT with falling temps they really turn on for the fall feeding frenzy if we get fall rain and they letting water out of the dam its really good on rod and reel.
back when we ran trottlines sept- november we caught many flatheads on black perch several in the 40-70 lb range that time of year.

I would actually lean more to early June to catch the tail end of the pre-spawn. The weather is still wet, but a little more predictable than May. It's cool enough to not salt my shirts with sweat rings too. The last couple Augusts in Ohio have been damn near droughts, so I don't know what a typical month would be like. I haven't been at it long enough. The bugs also seem to plague me where I fish in the fall.
