I was recently given two rod/reels (see post in fishing reels) and as ive never owned any true saltwater gear i admit i dont know much about what i was given. the rod for the spinning reel has no markings on it and is five feet long, very heavy duty, 12 inch wooden handle.

the other rod, five feet also, and perhaps the heaviest rod ive ever owned.
the rod tip is a miniature downrigger type thing. a little pulley wheel.
condition is excellent to very good and the markings on it are as follows:

    Magnuflex, miami florida
    BR-217-R

thanks for any information that yall can provide.

    Chad,
The one with the Pulley sounds like the rods we used for Halibut in Alaska. Those heavy duty rods are often used for bottom fishing deep water, the pulley is for assistance in getting the line 1-3lb wieght and fish off the bottom.

That rod top is called a roller guide. They are common on heavy boat rod. From the lengths of the rods it sounds like they are heavy boat or standup rods.

i stand corrected in the length. they are six foot each.
the magnuflex has basically no give whatsoever and the other
is about equal to an extremely heavy bass 'worm" rod.
    thanks

The Magnuflex is a heavy Duty trolling rod that was made in the Late 60's to Mid 70's and was rated for up to 100# test by the IGFA.

thanks, that magnuflex sounds perfect. that along with the penn senator will be used off of our pier out into the river. should come in handy trying to tightline in really heavy current.
