Hi, new to your site. After a 40 year fishing hiatus I'm going on a vacation next week to the outer banks of North Carolina. I'm going with a friend who likes to fish. I was in a second hand store and purchased a Penn Peer 209, with a Browning Silaflex 975 rod. Reel appears in good shape and operates without any notable issues. My question is how should I properly prepare it for use. Also I was/am planning to use it for peer fishing. Is the rig good for the task?
Thanks
Earl

I use penn 209s for catfishing, the only thing I recommend is use 17# or heavier line on them.if using lighter line it tends to get caught under the sides of the reel where the spool is.set it up to be a little tight side for spool tension and practice casting a few time before your fishing trip.these reels will back lash quite easy but are bullet proof reels.
