I cant believe that I have never had this......... I decided to smoke a pork shoulder to day. Tammy wanted some grilled chicken so I thought my favorite baked beans was just the ticket as a side. Rather than heating up the house I thought, why not put them in with the pork and smoke them. I took them out after five hours and found heaven! I'm serious, these are the best beans that I have ever eaten, bar none...........:wink:

I've cooked in a few BBQ cook offs. I won first place, out of 78 teams, one year with pinto beans. I did them entirely in my big pit. I did find out one thing though, the smoke is extremely difficult to get off the outside of the pot.

Go to Wally World and get Estracell scrub sponges. They work better than any thing I have found to get the smoke off the pots. Still a lot of work.

Did you put the beans on the rack below the pork shoulder, so the dripping would go in the beans?

All you need is cast iron for good cooking. Soot add flavor.
