caught this one last night and several others on live bream. Cant quite figure out what kind it is, rather odd looking. It weighed over 15 lbs, and fought like a 30 lb fish. One other one around 6lbs ate a blue gill as big as your hand! Let me know what yall think it is! Its top lip stuck out farther than the bottom, btw!

I ain't no expert since I just picked up catfishing last year, but I think it looks like a big Channel cat in spawn mode. I know that breeding male Channel catfish acquire deep blue/black colored areas with thickened lips and a knobby, swollen head.

Definately a channel! There is a private lake here in Missouri that has some HUGE channels, the rich people that live there never fish for them and I have a friend that hooks me up. I catch lots of 15+ pound channels there and this time of year they get all weird looking just like that. Actually, big channels look weird anyway if you ask me. Biggest to date for me is 28 pounds, and yes, they all fight like they are twice their weight. Chris

I second that. It is a male channel - spawn style.

Deffinatlly a Channel cat. My wife caught 1 about 7-8 years agon in the Pee Dee river that was 25lbs and me and my buddy swore it was a cross between a blue and a flathead. Long story short we kept it alive and the biologist came out and told us it was a mature Male Channel. BTW that is a face only a mother could love.

Hmm, I'm surprised you didn't count the anal fin rays Brad, tisk, tisk........... 22-23 white cat, 24-29 channel, then 30-36 is the Blue. I caught some blues 2 weeks ago looked like that.

In the anal fin pic it looks rounded, like a channel...but its not spread out fully to see right....but I think it is rounded. The other thing I see is that copper color next to side fins. My guess is a channel also....only a guess. Counting them leaves no guess work ; )

We caught some that looked like that last year up the tugaloo. I would definitely say it's a channel. The biggest channel we've ever caught out of Hartwell was 11.4lbs. That one you caught is probably the equivalent of catching a 50lb flathead. Nice fish!

I'd say a channel cat from the lighter coloring on it's flanks, but that's just a guess too....... Nice fish though
