You can find shad 75% of the time in the dillon spillway if you are fishing up north. Otherwise you gotta catch them near one of the dams on the Muskingum, in the whitewater or near it. Sometimes you can find them in creeks that enter the river if they are deep enough and have a decent flow. You must take care though cause there are tons of rocks to get your net caught on and never get it back under the dams.

James welcome to the BOC. The best place I can think of near Blue Rock would be at the bottom of the Philo dam. I have caught them on the Duncan Falls side of the river. There is a drive that drops down by the river in front of the bar on the river, used to be fondales but I think they changed the name of it. The last time I was there the drive was pretty rough so be careful, might have to walk down. Once you get to the bottom of the drive there is a path to the left which will take you to the bottom of the dam. Be advised it is pretty rocky down there . As S-man said if you make it up north the spillway at Dillon is shad heaven. Good luck to ya on the muskingum this year.

I've fished with a guy from Zanesville that has caught 50 and 60lb range flatheads from under the Philo dam. I know its only 3ft deep most of the time, but they do come up there. I leave it to you to find out when. Good luck, hope to meet you on the river one night.

Welcome to the BOC James. Also check drainage pipes that enter the river. They seem to like fresh, oxygenated water, thus the first place to look is at the dams.
