    Hello everyone,

My name is Stephen, I live in the middle of Frederick. I recently have caught the catfishing bug. I have been fishing since I was 3, now I am 26. I used to live in VA on a lake growing up and all we had to do was go out there with anything that seemed like bait and we would catch some nice cats. But now older and living pretty close to the Monocacy, and the Potomac I have been trying to learn how to catch big cats. I have had little success so far. I am shore bound most of the time, and am just looking for some tips to help my success rate.

I have mainly just fished night crawlers, livers, and shrimp, with livers giving my most success.

I am open to suggestions, tips, and hints. I have all the gear "I thinnk" I have rods from small trout rods, all the way up to Conventional Heavers I surf fish with.

Thanks in advance for the help. I have been reading posts all over the board, and hope that I can up some of this to use.

    Tinybaum aka Steve

    Tinybaum,
I am pretty much in the same boat as yourself. I live in downtown Frederick and recently decided to start fishing again. My obsession has always been with catfishing (and eating)! I am originally from Arkansas and Tennessee so I trying to figure out these Mid-Atlantic cats myself. I found a really nice place to bankfish south of Clearspring, MD last weekend on the C & O Canal @ Dam #5. I hooked one or two nice channel cats and watched a few fellow fishers walk away with some nice stringers. I was using some of Mike's Mean Green Worms that the guy at the local bait shop off of I-70 recomended. They didn't work so great for me, and it appears that most everybody was either using brim/shad, chicken livers, and shrimp. I look forward to going back and bringing the proper baits this time. When you park, walk down the dam and plant yourself on the rocks that extend halfway out into the canal. Cast towards the dam itself and sit back and enjoy. The locals said that at about 10 pm the big fish came out to eat. Btw, let me know if you of any good spots closer to Frederick. Take care and good fishing.
    Sincerely,
    Terry

I am going to have to look that area up. I fished Friday night with a couple of buddies. We managed a few small cats, and one 14lb channel. All in all a pretty good night. Everything caught on Liver. I did try using blue gill, I had about 4 really nice hits on them but never a hook-up.
