Tommy Couch of Howe OK caught a 76 lb flathead below Lake Wister dam. The fish was 51 1/2" long and had a girth of 58 1/4". It was caught on 20# line, 2/0 hook with red worm as bait. He cleaned and eat the fish.

I am sure someone would have taken him out for all you can eat catfish. But as you say it was his fish. Do you think the head is on a fence post in front of his house? If i was going to be that hardcore it would be on my post.

Just got word that he was trying to get the fish to an aquarium and the fish died. Would have been nice to have had the fish in the wildlife breeding program if not released

At least he tried. I would have eaten it too if it had died plus hung its head on a fence post

    Niceeeee Fish! ! !
Wondering, does he have to get a size suitable fence post for it? The larger the head the larger the post! :))

I would mount it too, if it died while tring to get it certified. I would have released it, if it was my fish. But it was his to do what he pleases with. Ain't got no hard feelings against him. Nice catch. Any pictures of it?

I have a related question, I was told flatheads live about 15 years. Does anyone know if they quit spawning at a certain age. I wonder if the monsters are still in the spawning process or just lay in wait to eat. For a huge fish to be taken while still spawning each year would be worse than an old fish on his last fin! Just some thoughts!

I haven't seen any pictures yet. If I find any I will post them.

As far as I know and can find out catfish continue to breed all their life.

Naw, in this case it is the ugliness of freedom. Nothing pretty about killing a fish that size.

Love your poem. I think all fishermen think that way.

That was a great fish, I hope it tasted good at least. :( . Just goes to show you that to catch a true monster takes a lot of luck too. Think of all the guys who fished for flatheads there before him. And what does he land it with? A worm. On a 2/0 hook. Right time and right place

Thats a true fisherman there guys. He obviously fishing for food and not for sport. He still has my respect. Good catch and thanks for sharing.

here is a link to a pic of the fish

My guess is that he was not fishing for a trophy flat but probably some eating channels. That part of Oklahoma is not the richest and that fish could have feed a family for a few nights.
