A 78lb 8oz flathead was caught in Lake El Reno this past week. Richard Williams of El Reno was bass fishing. He was using a Strike King crank bait on 14 lb test line.
The fish was not released.

They had a fish fry. It was his fish to do with what he wanted, but it would have been nice if it had gone to the state hatchery or been released.

oh ya i agree totally his fish. wish we whould have been invited at least. for a record tho it whould have been cool if the state whould have took it and let it live. be neat to see. prob. tasted alright as well im sure. maybe they will quit bass fishn now and start cattn.

That's a heck of a fish to land using 14# test line, I landed an 18# flathead yesterday on 14# line while jigging for white bass with a Texas Slab spoon on Grand Lake, I let him go, I never keep anything over 12#.
