Reese and I fished below Cannelton Dam today. Had a chance to finally give my bumping rod a try. I walked a whole shad down a hole, got a few nibbles, then bang! Feeling the fish hit and feeling all of it's power was amazing. Then he started peeling line off my Tekota 600hg, and I got to see how much backbone the Shattered Cat bumping rod had. For such a light rod, it was able to reel in a 58lb blue against current from 60 feet down and at least 100 yards behind the boat.
Big thanks to Reese for his great net work!
This is my new pb and I can't get the smile off my face.
This spot is right down the road from where we are hosting the Indiana gathering in September. Make sure to sign up on the thread located in the Indiana Talk section.

    Nice job guys.
That hit from a big fish when you are holding the rod is a real heart stopping moment eh Eric; one of the best feelings in fishing.
Guess we know where you'll be heading in September!
Did you launch at Cannelton or at Rocky Point and go through the lock?

Thanks guys! We launched at Cannelton Winston. They only had two gates open and there was a strong recirculating current that let me walk the bait while spot lock held us in place.
It did feel like a truck took my bait lol!! I felt a thump when it hit and gave me a split second to engage my reel.

    yah, not too bad.

haha great blue cat Eric. I have only hooked a few while trying to bump but more like walking baits. It is am amazing feeling when they hit. Mine, so far were only about a third that size though. Great catch and with a good friend handling the net it makes it that much better. Good for you. Looks like a new Avatar coming to me. Don't forget that even though the fish will take up the whole picture you need your face in it. lol

And I suppose this seals the deal on where we will be for the gathering. haha.

I have not fished directly below a dam since the early 80s. And I didn't know what I was doing then.

    Great picture, thanks for sharing.

Thanks Matt! I just got home.
Only caught one other 10lb blue the whole day Saturday. Both fish showed quite a few cuts and scrapes from spawning, so the spawn must be coming to an end or I just happened to find a couple taking a break for a cigarette lol!
