Went out fishing a couple of weeks ago for flatheads. I had six runs from flats in only 3 hours. 3 of the runs resulted in hook ups, but due to rocks, my braided line just kept getting cut. All 3 fish felt pretty nice. I got fed up and left.
Just a few days ago, I couldn't take it anymore. I had to hit that spot again. So, I spooled up with some mono. Within a half hour at the spot I hook into the first fish, but after a couple of minutes the hook comes undone. I was preety happy as this was a step up from the previous week. About an hour later I get another run. I set the hook and the fight is on. After a few minutes, I'm holding my new personal best flathead. 35lbs even!!

    Good job Josh and congratulations!

Getting new PB's are sweet! And good thinking changing your gear to account for the environment you were fishing in.

great adjustment, but What pound braid were you using? Hard to believe that mono stands up better to rocks than braid, but it did for you. Good PB

Braid doesn't stand up to rocks at all! I was using 80lb braid. Could barely fight a fish for ten seconds before the line would get cut. But, 25lb mono did the job like a charm. The mono had some nicks after fighting the fish, but held great.

I personaly like cajun red better than berkley big game. It may be a little stiffer but it casts a little smoother and feels stronger. My next choice for mono is big game.
