New personal best flathead catfish

    About 50 lb - estimated weight due to my 50 lb Boga scale's jaws not being wide enough to get around the fish's jaw. Got a reading of 48 but still had a grip supporting the fish with my other hand. I need to invest in a better scale...

    Caught it using a live 7-8" chub on the bottom with 20 lb test fireline. Pool 13 of the Mississippi during mid-afternoon.

    What a rush for a NW Iowa boy who grew up catching bullheads. :big_smile:

    That's a NICE 'un. When they get that big, I weigh 'em in the net, and deduct the net's weight from the total. Easier to get the scale hooked that way, and doesn't hurt the fish.
