Ok folks, time for me to update the avatar. Some of you may know I have been asking a lot of questions here and in the chat room about flathead fishing. I am not a flattie hunter, but I knew there were some 20+ pound fish in my home lake lake. The past two days I changed up from my normal approach to catching channels and went after some flatheads with bigger cut bait, live bream, and changed around some of the structure I was fishing. Well, I found something else instead. This morning I landed a 55 pound 1 oz. blue around 9:00am. I was stunned. Lake Wylie is not known for huge blues. I have caught blues up to 22 pounds, and lots in the 4-5 pound range, but a fish this size is unheard of in this lake, well, until now. She was in a relatively shallow area and hit a large bream head. I had my back turned dealing with some long since forgotten anchor issue and I heard that zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz sound of the drag. The rod tip was in the water and the 7/0 circle hook was doing its job. The 15 pound Ande line held and about 10 minutes later she was in the boat....after one heck of a one man nerve wrecking net wrangling job. I couldn't find the camera in the tackle bag, so I had to call my wife to meet me at the boat landing to snap some pics. Some folks launching their boat probably thought I was nuts walking around in waist deep water with the fish in a net until my wife got there. LOL!! Anyway, snapped some pics and sent the big momma on her way back into the water!!!
