Caught this 13.5 lb, 29 inch blue last Sunday. Biggest fish for me so far, but considering I only fish the local lakes and ponds from the bank that's not too bad. Odd thing was, though, I caught this blue in a private pond. I didn't think they did too well in ponds. -- Vance

Hey Vance! A big congrats on your personal best!! Nice fish. Every time I look at that fish, I'm thinking its a Channel Cat, but I might be wrong. The coloration screams Channel Cat!! The anal fish appears to be straight and that's a good indication of a blue cat. Anyhow, that's really great you caught your PB!!

Thanks, y'all. Yeah, I thought it looked like a channel, too, but the anal fin threw me.

I was thinking the same thing...then again, I've never caught a blue or seen one in real life so I cant say for sure. Congrats on the catch though, it looks like it could have put up a good fight!

    Nice cat, whatever it is.

It does look like a pre-spawn male channel to me, but it's tough to tell from a picture. The best way to tell is to count the rays on the anal fin. 29 or fewer, it's a channel. 30 or more, it's a blue.

Nice fish and congrats on the new PB.
I fished a small pond once that was supposedly stocked with channel/blue hybribs. I am not sure if there are hybrid cats thats just what I was told. I was also told that those fish couldn't reproduce. The fish I caught from that pond looked alot like your fish. All I know for sure is it's got wiskers and swims and thats enough for me:wink:.
