Just got back from Wateree. I woke up at 6 this morning and decided to go to the lake. Got to Buckhill Landing about 7 and started tossing the net. First throw I got 2 what I believe are golden shiner's if they are even in Wateree. Threw and threw some more and only got one more shiner and 2 small threadfins. So I decided to hop over to the dam to see if I can find some shad over there. Was there about 15 min the water came on so I started tossing and tossing and getting nothing and nothing. So I am pretty mad right now. I head back over to Buckhill Landing to just fish with what I got (I hate fishing there just for the record). I decided to try to walk over behind he dam and low and behold its not even possible. So I head back to the boat ramp and set up shop at about 8:45. Cut up a shiner and tossed it out. So I sat there for about 20 min without even a nibble. I reeled in the rod with the middle section in and put a threadfin on it. About 2 minutes later I bring in a dink. So tossed him back and decided I would bring in the other pole in about 5 min to rebait. So I walked down the ramp to see if there were any shad swimming and just as I turned around my pull starts bending hard. Picked it up and the fight was on. I got it up to the dock and had no idea what to do since I don't carry a net. So I walked it down to the start of the ramp and drug it up on land. Ran and got my scale and it came in at 15lbs. Previous best was 12 so were moving on up. Hopefully 20lbs. will be next. Sat there for a bit longer and got a decent striper. Didn't weigh it, but it was probably 5ish. So what started off bad ended up great. Sorry I didn't CPR it. I was wanting some fish to eat and since I can't ever get a mess of dinks, this guy had to do. Photo will be coming soon hopefully, if not you all know what a cat looks like.
