Last night a buddy and I set out on Wylie to try and find a few cats. Little did I know that I would hook into this monster (for Lake Wylie). It weight in at just over 64lbs and was a great fight once it saw the boat. We almost broke the net getting it into the boat and I think we laughed in disbelief and amazment for a good 15 minutes after. The fish was quickly weighted, photographed and released to be caught again.

Wow nice fish, I just started fishing for cats about 2 weeks ago and the biggest i've caught is about 2lbs lol. My rod would break trying to real something in that bid.

I caught it on a SilStar CATMASTER rod with a 5000 abu and 16lb test.

Its a sad day for me. My lake record has fallen.

Awesome fish Cary! That is a fish of a lifetime on ANY body of water.

Did that one come out of the deep water just above the Buster Boyd Bridge like the other ones?

I think that will become the number three fish in the BOC Hall of Fame, even though it looks bigger than any of them!! :eek:oooh:

What a catch!! I am happy for you Cary. Everybody would love to catch a fish like that but not everybody is that fortunate. I thought you were using a Ugly Striper rod--I will have to do some clarifications! Congrats man, you deserve it.

I am a bass and crappie convert so most of my rods are medium/light action and so are my reels. But I have caught some 12lb steelhead trout on 4lb test and a light action noodle rod so I just keep hoping that i'll get to try the same technique on a big cat one day.
