Went fishing this evening on the north fork of the Red River with my buddy Bray (Wood18) and another friend named Wynn. We hit our favorite hole, and we were using cut shad for bait. Within 5 minutes of getting there, I hooked into my pb blue. Wynn thought it was funny that I was using a 9 ft. Eagle Claw rod and 8/0 hook.... he changed his mind after he saw me do battle with this bad boy. The fish took the shad head I was using for bait, and when I set the hook he stripped off about 40 yards of line. There was a lot of brush along the banks of the river, and I wasn't sure that we could land him. The net we brought along wasn't big enough to net the fish in, so Bray had to get in the water to land the fish for me. He was 35.7 lbs on my scale, and that's almost 2 pounds bigger than my previous pb. After we snapped some pics, I released him to fight another day. He was a real brute, and I remember telling Bray "I've got a monster on & he's whipping my a$$!!!" The fish only fought for about 3 minutes, but it seemed like an eternity. Thanks to WOOD18 for landing the fish for me. Without him being there, there's no way I would've got him ashore. He had to get in the water and get hold of that big boy and heft him onto the bank for me. Anyway, here's a pic of the fish. sorry for the poor quality, it was on a camera phone.
