New PA State Record pending

Read an article this morning about a new pending state record here in PA. Apparently the fish was 66# 3 oz. That shatters our current record by 10#!!!

I'm really curious to see what the next couple years brings. Getting to fish for a species like flatheads, in a body of water where they are riding the invasive curve is really exciting.

I really wasn't expecting to see a jump that big , that quick. I figured the 56# wouldn't last long, I personally saw a fish that topped that record, but we were fishing a tournament and the guy didn't wait for the game commission to come verify , so the record was rejected.

At any rate, I'm really excited to see where they top out here!!! 40 and 50 pound fish are fairly common, so it will be interesting to see exactly how big they can get in a new river system.

I just got a chance to look through the pics, I HATE to be that guy, I'm never one to do do the fish size argument online, but this is a state record we are talking about and first thing i thought when looking at the pics was....wheres the 66# fish?

If it stands, it stands...maybe the dude is 6'-6"? I recognize the guy from the parking lot, don't specifically remember how big of a dude he is though. Maybe he's just a big dude and it skews the pics.

Pics can be quite deceiving. Seems like alot of people witnessed the fish and the weight including a PFBC employee. Not a surprise that the record was broken and this is a good time of year as the fish are fattening up before the spawn. Like you said it is a little surprising that it took that big of a jump. With how big catch and release is these days more records will fall. 66 may be tough to beat though. I think WV record is 70lb and that has stood for a long time.

Yea pics can be decieving for surebut the one i seen was a pretty basic, no forced perception, double lip hanging from waist pose. It honestly looked like a 40-50lb fish to me.

Looks like it was 4" longer than my 48 pound fish. They did have a picture of the scalethough. Time will tell.
Does someone have a copy of the picture or the link to it?

Okay, now I see what the skepticism is about and I share it also.
