    Hi all,

I am glad that I found this site, I've been looking for a link to all these catfishermen and women that i have been seeing on the Rivers of Arkansas more and more here lately too.

I guess I'll give a little history of myself. I was born and raised up around Magnolia, Ar. My Dad has always took me fishing when I was growing up for which I am thankful, (off the streets and outta trouble, er, um, well, most of the time). We fish the Red river anywhere from Fulton, Ar to below Shreveport, La. We fish the Mississippi primarily around Greenville, Ms. usually putting in at Warfield Point Part or at the Casino's in Greenville. We are primarily catfishermen fishing for the big cats using Skipjack, rod and reel fishing only. Between me and my Dad we have probably got 20 or so fish above the 50 lb. range. He has several above 60 lb. but nothing above 65 lb. I have only caught 1 above 60 and it went 65 lbs. My Dad is 85 yrs old and I hope and pray that he beats my score of 65 lbs. soon. He has caught two or three 62's and 63's but can't seem to break that 65 lb. mark. My Dad is really funny about his fishing, its like everyday is the first time he ever got to go, lol. He loves it so much. I'll never forget here several months ago we got to go after a long dry spell of not going because of the rivers being too high, we got there and after a little bit he got a good bite, set the hook and just sat there looking out into the blue holding onto the rod, smileing. I truely think he had an orgasm, lol. Anyway he likes to fish and so do I, and I like takeing him now too as he is getting on in his years.

Anyway I don't wanna sound gabby or nothing, but wanted to say hello to all.

    Don

welcome to the BOC Don..... there is much more than "chatting" taking place here on the BOC.... There are many topics that are in the archives of information that has been accumulated by the staff on the BOC. Takes a little time to get familiar with the access to things.... but you'll do just fine.... anything that you can come up with for needs on fishing etc... its here or will be referred to you with your posts.... "have fun"

    Thanks Verlon,

I'll have to dig a little deeper to find out when and where the Degray event will be so maybe I can attend.

Thanks to all of you for welcoming me in so warmheartedly, and poisonpits there is no need to thank me for taking my Dad fishing because I will never be able to repay him for all the trips he has took me on and all the stuff he has taught me, besides he is my best buddy, wouldn't think of taking anyone else unless it is the better half, she enjoys going every now and then when it is not too hot. She enjoys the camping trips on one of the many beautiful sandbars up and down the Red river. There is nothing any prettier than a lightning storm miles away to watch from the sandbar on a cool night by the camp fire. Lotta good memories on that river.

    Hey Don,

I grew up in Magnolia. Went to high school over in Waldo. Your neck of the woods is still "Home" for me. Welcome to the BOC. I make it to Magnolia about twice a year. Got a bunch of kin down south. Been in Oklahoma since 1980. My wife of 11 years is from Eldorado. Have you been down to felsonthaw? I would love to explore that area.

    Yea, Hello Kelmar,

Yea, I graduated high school in 1970 from Magnolia, and your face does look familiar. Yea, I did a little time at Felsenthaw, I owned a bait shop and grocery store there for about 8 years, had a guide service, mostly bass, bream, crappie fishing and duck hunting. The catfishing I did back then was for my own pleasure. It didn't turn out to be as great as they had predicted because of the water management program of the federal wildlife program there, but it was still good.

By the looks of the picture your not doing bad there in Oklahoma. Glad to see you with the youngster there too. "A kid that fishes with his dad seldom turns out bad."

Welcome to the BOC, Don! I see that Top has already posted a link to the DeGray gathering next spring; there's not one scheduled yet, but we generally have at least one gathering a year at Wilbur Mills Dam. I'm going to try to get up a gathering for Toadsuck for the weekend Nov. 2, 3, & 4. Watch the gathering section for it, and try to be there. In case you're wondering, any guests you bring are welcome, too, regardless of whether or not they are members of the BOC.
