Hey my name is Joel, I've been fly fishing mostly for the last 20 years but have started to do more conventional bass fishing and plan to start fishing for cats. It looks like I have found a wealth of information here and I hope to put it to good use. I plan to go out to Bartlett Sunday night to see if I can put some channel cats or smaller flat heads in the frying pan, or shoot if I get lucky a big one back in the lake. I don't have a boat and my only friend with a boat is a bass purist so I'm going to have to figure out the shores. If your out Sunday and you see me stop and say hi I'll be the tall guy with light green hair and a tattooed left arm.

    Joel

Welcome to the BOC, Joel! You'll probably toss that fly rod now that your gettin' into cats lol or maybe you'll pioneer the flyfishing methods for catching them! Good luck, and use the brotherhood, you'll learn alot from these guys.

    Thanks for the warm welcome.

I've caught several channel cats on the fly, Closer Minnows and Wooly Buggers both work well, I've caught them on crank baits as well. There aren't many warm water species I haven't caught on the fly (well at least in AZ). In addition to all of the trout and char species that we have here I've caught; Large mouth and small mouth bass, yellow bass, striped bass, channel catfish, crappie, yellow perch, green and red ear sunfish, bluegill, tillapia and common and grass carp. That only leaves northern pike, walleye, white bass and flat heads of which I'm pretty sure I'll be able to check the northern and the white bass off the list the walley and flathead could prove to be a big (fun) challenge.
