Hello from Marble Falls. I stumbled upon this site by accident and I'm glad that I did. I'm fortunate to live in the Heart of the Highland Lakes. I'm 5 minutes from Lake LBJ, 5 minutes from Lake Marble Falls, and 10 minutes from Lake Travis. I look forward to learning a few tips from the pros and sharing information.

Yes, i've fished Buchanan many times. The thing that I don't like about Buchanan is that it's not a constant level lake.... it's pretty low right now. But on the other hand I suppose that keeps it interesting and opens up different good holes. I've never caught a big blue, but it has a reputation for being a hot spot for them. There's a guide out there that uses a different approach with cut shad. He hooks them just under the skin. His theory is that the skin is pretty tough, but when a fish takes it a hard setting of the hook will cause the bait to come off and allow a good firm set in the fish. I'm going to try that one.

I would use circle hooks instead of that method. Just hook the shad through the eyes or wherever you like. Kick back and listen for the clicker.

I try different ways often. But since I started using circles,it's hard to go back to setting the hook. Also, there seems to be less gut hooked fish with circles.
