I bought my daughter the .223 youth model last year with black stock..she and I both love it..My wife actually killed a nice 8 point with it from our back deck last year.. its a real tack driver..and no recoil..I'd recommend getting it!!

I have been toying with buying one for myself ,and getting in the barrel program and buying extra barrels since my daughter will be shooting soon.

I have 243 Handi rifle. I bought it last year and killed 3 deer with it. It's really accurate and shoots great. I highly recomend it.

I have owned several. They either shoot or they don't. They ahve a forum for them over at Grey Beard Outdoors. On the ones that didn't shoot I tried the tricks but inconsistency was the name of the game.
Plus I found that most were just as heavy as good bolt action, top heavy with a scope, had horrible non-adjustable triggers, and have a balance point that is centered on the bottom of the square metal frame. They were very uncomfortable to carry and I found myself thinking "Why am I going thru all this for a single shoot rifle that is ugly and a pain in the butt to begin with?"

Long story short I sold all of mine.

Do your son a favor. Take a look at one of the bolt actions. If price is a major factor go look at a Savage. No better bolt action on the market IMHO, cheap to. I had master gunsmith build my son a Model 7 in 6.5-284 when he was born. It is a rifle he will cherish all his life and probably pass on to his son.
