Never tried it myself, but alot of people use the liver as bait. Also I always have some freezer burned deer roasts in the freezer. Feed it to the needy, or use it for bait? Hmmm...

I have some old steaks in the freezer that I am sure that are freezer burned. Maybe I'll give that a shot.

I like to use chicken breast, or CB as they call it... but if they bite as good on that itd save me a lot of money, thanks for the idea-

PS- not a terrible waste if you eat fish, few ounces of one meat for several pounds of another isnt a waste

An old guy in a beat up boat beat us by a few pounds at the local catfishing tournament this year. When I quizzed him on bait selection he showed me a block of frozen beef hearts he had been slicing bait off of. He told me he always caught big cats on this bait.

    HUMMMM.......blood rich meat....tough...stays on the hook......CHEAP!!!!!!!!

We started using it and it has proved to been our #2 store bought bait just behind the expensive shrimp. It never fails to get a bite if fish are in the area. We get it from the local custom butcher shop. Since we started using it he keeps it all the time frozen for us. Cost is around .79 lb. One pound goes a LONG way.
These days we never leave the bank without a block of frozen beef heart in the cooler. This year's deer hearts will be in my freezer as well.
