I just went and ordered a J16 Carolina Skiff. I am replacing my old boat. My old boat was a 1971 Easy Rider(Stick Steer). This boat was pretty heavy with the wood runners probably waterlogged inside. It also sprayed pretty bad since it sat so low in the water(9 inches at the back). I was wondering, my new boat should be about 300 pounds lighter and only draft 3-4 inches. Set up like my old boat as a stick steer, how much do you think my gas mileage will improve. Still will be running a 25 horse tohatsu. Thanks...

The skiff should ride higher and weigh less. With all else being equal you should see better gas mileage and a litle faster speed. I know you will be proud of your choice/change. Good Fishing. Report back the actual results once you have checked it out.
