Hi Justin,

On the 7000's the size or capacity of all of them are the same,,to my knowledge. Except for the Narrow models..
The internal features are different on the various vintages, and models.
but, any modern, 7000 reel will have great usable features you'll enjoy using,, The 7000iC3 and 7000 CS models are IMO, top of the line currently..
the 7000i is a fairly well equipped reel!! as well.
Older units do the same things in different ways,, but, have a pretty good record in use!!

and,, Welcome th the USCA!!!:smile-big:

Check Bass Pro Shops website for some of the different 7000's they have on there. It helped get me going in the right direction. Make sure to check both the freshwater and saltwater sections. Imo, can't go wrong with any 7000 series. Also, Ming-Yang makes a respectable reel that is a tad larger than the 7000 that won't bust the wallet to bad. That catfish pro rocket is a nice reel as well. Happy hunting!

Generally, the 7000's come with a 4.3:1 gear ratio, and a standard power handle,, so, they would "crank harder" than a higher gear ratio reel, which, IMO, isn't necessarily a good thing,, providing you are using a rod with sufficient backbone, worthy of a 7000 and equal line...
Some of the 7000's ,,ie, the Gold Big Game units, come standard with a 5.3:1 gear ratio.. much preferred,, IMO to the lower gear reels..
However,, a point to consider in comparing 7000's to 6500's etc, is the sturdy reel foot,, much beefier by comparison,, If you're intending to target Big Fish...

7000ic3 IS ALL YOU WOULD NEED....And thats coming from a PENN guy...Sweet reels!
I agree!!,, and, if you want a lower gear ratio,, go with a Penn 209-309, etc,, That coming from an Abu guy!!! LOL

but, If you use your stout fishing rod to fight the fish,, and use the reel to take up line,, , the lower gear ratios are not an asset..in Catfishing...IMO, and experience..
