Hi guys one of my good friends told me his secret recipe. He told me he always catches big ones and I have seen them before just dont know if he caught them using this bait so here it is tell me if you think it sounds good. Here it is

    1. 1 carton of limburger cheese

    2. 1/2 pound of ground hamburger meat

    3. Regular Corn Flakes (for thickener)

    4. 1/2 can of any kind of beer

    5. Garlic powder

    6. Chicken liver blood (only the blood in one or two large containers)

    7. (SECRET INGREDIENT) 1 can of Long cut Copenhagen

    Mixing Instructions:

In a large bowl mix limburger cheese and ground hamburger together.

Then add just enough garlic powder to cover the meat.

Add beer and chicken liver blood.

Add Copenhagen and stir together. Mixture will be too thin to stay on the

hook at this point so start mixing in dry corn flakes until it stiffens up nicely.

Dump entire mixture into a can or bowl with a lid (I use an empty coffee can).

Set aside at least 3 days before going fishing. Use a treble hook with a small spring wound around the shaft or cut a small square from gauze or

used panty hose, put a big lump of bait in it and tie the ends to make a ball.

Cast out with some weight to keep it on the bottom and HOLD ON FOR THE BIG ONE!

Also do u guys have any suggestions that i could make the bait tougher to stay on the hook instead of using panty hose?

LoL why how much is everything? I didnt really think it would be too expensive besides the cheese and the copenhagen.

My granpa use to use this very same bait recipe in the middle 50s and many of my family and myself still till this day use it at times.

It is a right nice channel catfish bait.

And yes when you make this bait wear some gloves cause the smell does not come off the hands easy at all.

I always use Wheaties in place of the corn flakes. Make for a stiffer bait.

I always use some stockings or something to time the bait on if it is remotely not thick enough so if you use those you won't have to worry about that.

A friend of mine back in the midwest just bought that same recipe from a guy on Ebay a few weeks ago. He asked me about it and I'd never heard of that mixture before. Sounds like it might work.

I honestly think it would work just fine without the copenhagen, but it's those intangibles that make baits and fishing in general fun.

Its definitely worth a try. Catfish are pretty crazy what they'll eat.

My understanding is that fish don't like the smell of tobacco. I know that it has been used to lift large rays ,that are hooked up, off the bottom when they dig in. They set it by their nose and they can't stand it. But thats not Copenhagen. I would save that for myself any way ,lol.

I have found that any kind of a bait will work for channel cats as long as it smells like the back end of some old putred dead animal. lol
